Allen Edmonds Normandy Boots Review

Allen Edmonds Normandy Boots Review

Allen Edmonds NORMANDY BOOTS 1661 Brown Kudu, a boot that’s so authentic, you’ll feel like they came straight out of your grandfathers closet but with the added touch of modern materials.

Soft kudu leather, natural edges with vintage oil-infused outsoles, I am finally doing the Allen Edmonds Normandy Boots Review. A boot that honors those great peoples who worked through the Depression, fought & won World War II.

Allen Edmonds recreated their stylish hard-working footwear with a brand-new look and modern materials. Proudly made in the USA at our Port Washington, Wisconsin factory.

I have to say, I am very excited about reviewing the Allen Edmonds Normandy Boots. Mainly because they are made in the USA at our very own Port Washington.

If you live in Chicago, you can go see these boots being made. It’ll be just a few hours drive from there.

Specs In A Nutshell

  • Lace-up derby boot.
  • Distressed, soft kudu leather upper.
  • Cap toe blucher.
  • Regular heel.
  • Distressed double oak leather sole.
  • All around Goodyear welted construction.
  • 212 steps of fine craftsmanship.
  • These boots are recraftable.
  • Proudly made in the USA.

Now, the Normandy Boot has an all leather sole except for the heel. It has a nice sticky rubber heel. So, you’re going to get a little toe to heel traction. The leather these Normandy boots uses is phenomenally soft.

What I can say about these leathers being so soft and supple, it’s not going to take a lot to break in these boots.

Outside of the fact that there is not comfort orthotic insole inside, it’s still going to take some time to break it in, but the process isn’t going to be painful at all.

Once you actually break in the actual fit and you from the footbed to your actual foot, this thing is going to be amazing. By looking at this boot, you can see that Allen Edmonds used distressed leather on them.

I have to say; they have really put some time and energy into oiling and removing the oil and just giving it that oil lived-in look. This boot does resemble those boots from the Sherlock Holmes series.

Did you know how the name Normandy came up?

These boots actually remind you of world war 2. Hence the name, Normandy.

Design & Construction

It has a real steampunk look. With that beautiful cap toe and the way, it’s got that triple stitch all the way around it; these boots do fit those criteria. The manufacturers also offer a recrafting service.

You can easily replace the sole. If I were you, I would go for the same material that they used on the heel for the sole top. That way, you’ll get more traction on rainy wet days.

Everything about these boots is absolutely beautiful. But, one of the best details that I found is actually in the way that they construct the tongue of the boot.

So, the tongue is constructed with two pieces of leather. The even put another piece just behind the lacing section. When you crank the boot down, your laces don’t tear into the tongue.

Cleaning Bag

In every pair of Allen Edmonds Boots, you’ll get a polishing bag. I said polishing bag because you can keep the boot in them and also use it to polish your boots. You can rub it around the boot just to give it that nice shine.

When it comes time to actually put them away for an awhile, you can place the boots on them. So, when you pull them out of the bag, they are not dusty. Why am I talking about putting away these boots?

You are probably not going to wear these on a hundred-degree day. If you live in mid-west or anywhere else where there are hotter days, this is not probably something that you are going to reach for.

You should get a pair of nice sandals or flip-flops.

All in all, about fit, they are dead on. If you are a size 10, you can order a size 10 Allen Edmonds, and you are pretty much going to get your exact size, and they are going to fit well.

Especially when it comes to the Normandy, the leather is so soft that even if it’s a little tight in width and the toes, it’s going to stretch. It’s going to form to fit your foot. These boots will grow with you.

For example, if you own a red wing iron ranger boot with a size of 9.5d, then you can also order a 9.5d Allen Edmonds.

The leather on this boot is immaculate. They feel very comfortable on foot. As I said, you won’t have to worry about breaking in these boots.

These are not your ordinary work boots. Don’t go buying a pair of these for working purpose.

These are more casual wear boots. Like the red wing iron ranger boots, they also give a casual look. If you are a boot hound, you should definitely keep a pair of Allen Edmonds NORMANDY BOOTS 1661 Brown Kudu in your collection.

I wouldn’t call it a con, but all the reviews I do needs to be unbiased. These boots don’t have any insulated property.

Not a winter boot. If you have an office job and want to look kind of professional but at the same time beat the crap out of winter weather, then look for some heavy-duty leather Heritage boots.

For example, you can have a look at the Kodiak Magog Boots Review. The key things you should look at when getting a pair of winter boots are the –

  • Lug Sole.
  • Rough Thick Leather.
  • Insulated Properties.
