Carolina CA7002 Review

The American made 8” wedge by Caroline is the spitting image of the Thorogood Moc toe. No kidding, they look very similar. However, both are great boots by the way.

Wedge Sole

Like I said before in my other reviews, Carolina makes really good American made styles. And this wedge boot ranks right up there with everybody else who’s in the wedge market American made 8-inch game.

The Carolina wedge sole, the leather that they’re using oil tan from the factory. There’s already a coat of mink oil that’s in there that you can see when you press the leather. You can see it change color; you know that that’s nice soft good American leather.

Comfort At The Cost Of Durability

The sole that Carolina uses, their wedge sole, it’s not the longest wearing wedge sole, but you know what?

Guys who buy these boots, you guys out there who wear the wedge sole, the ironworkers, the pipe fitters, you guys working out at the refineries, you guys know these boots don’t last long no matter what you do. You’re tough on your boots.

But this boot is comfortable from the day you pull it out of the box, put it on your feet at 4:30 in the morning and get to the job till the day that you throw it out; you are going to be comfortable.

You know what? I’ve heard of people wearing them for more than 6 years. The thing is, there are some people that are just way too rough on their boots.

I don’t blame them though, it’s their job that requires them to do it. However, most of the time, taking proper care of your footwear can lead to long service time of your boots.

Craftsmanship

Carolina’s craftsmanship, it shows through. You can see it. It is no different than anything else that Carolina makes. All their American made products, when you look for the craftsmanship, you can see it.

You can see the hands of the guys that build the boots. You can tell that this was made by somebody who cares a lot about boots and who loves their job.

Hardware

Carolina uses mediocre hardware. I have to say, I mean it is nice stuff, but it’s the one part on this boot that I don’t like.

I don’t like the hardware that they use on this boot. But when you consider in the game of wedge soles that this is pretty much a price point boot.

Like these are really going to be about five to ten dollars less than anybody else for an American made wedge sole boot. I guess we can look past the hardware.

American Made Boots

Carolina adds a few nice little details though. One is the American made lace savers. They’ll let you know right up there that the boot was made in the USA.

They add a nice American flag right underneath the Carolina logo there.

Goodyear Welt Construction

The other detail that I really like about the Carolina boot that lets me know that it’s an American made boot is the way it’s welted. It’s a double stitch welting all the way around this Goodyear welt. It’s clean. It’s you know, it shows that there’s some sort of craftsmanship going on here when they make this boot.

Something that I really love about the Carolina boots when I pull a pair of these out of the box, and I’ve heard a lot of shop owners do this is that they always stick their hand inside the boot to see who was the inspector on every single pair of Carolina boot.

Most Comfortable Work Boots

This is a soft toe version and I don’t expect the construction workers or loggers to be wearing them. However, if your job requires you to stand for a very long time, this boot has you covered. It comes with AG7 footbed and Meramec Raptor polyurethane outsole that is oil and slip resistant. It is also electrical hazard rated.

Fit and Size

About fit and size, I would say it runs a little bit bigger. You are good to go if you wear them with work socks. Come to think of it, I should probably make an article on the best socks for boots though. Anyways, 8 out of 10 customers said that it fits as expected.
